| This week there were more birds moving into the area, so more Merlin app life birds! The woods walk was super brief but at least the trail-cameras saw some really fun stuff! Enjoy! Spying on Wildlife: Trail-cam Videos!
The beaver seems to be hanging out regularly down in the creek bottom. We really hope he/she creates a dam down there (and not out of knotweed like last time!). Shane was just commenting we hadn’t seen Haunter the bobcat down there lately and then here he was! So glad to see him and that he looks healthy. Watch to the end, CUTE baby opossum a little unsure about crossing that log.
The Birds: Discovering with the Merlin App
Found a new Merlin app life bird on Wednesday morning. I thought I had already claimed a Brewer’s Blackbird but I hadn’t! Saturday morning while feeding my horse I heard a bird I didn’t recognize. My app told me it was a Golden-crowned Sparrow and I could see it by the Bird Tree. I ran into the house and into mom’s bedroom to sneak up to the window for a closer look. Sure enough it was on the ground eating bird seed! Mom saw a Western Bluebird at her feeder Friday as well. It’s good that we’re bringing in the birds for her to see up close!
Other than a few kinds of common birds, most were pretty quiet or just not out and about in the weather for our woods walk. Lots of Red-breasted Nuthatch and the two kinds of Chickadees making a bunch of noise predominantly. A Golden-crowned Kinglet kept popping up but never saw it!
Woods Walks: Hidden Finds & Plants
The woods walk was super quick this week between family visits and rain. There are a few acorns beginning to drop but nothing significant. More leaves are changing colors and falling as well. I didn’t take a single picture either! I promise to do better next week!
