Pastures were locked down the night of November 4th for the winter. We have 3 groups:
The two rams, Archie and Titus, are out with the llama, Luna

Old retired Katahdin ewe, Sugar, out with her flock of keeper ewe lambs for the winter. They get to hang out with our old 31 year old horse, Tinky.

The last group are the 20 St Croix and Katahdin maternity ewes due to lamb in January.
Remember, lambing season is fast approaching and if you don’t want to wait a month (February) to see baby lamb photos, please head on over to our Hollow Hills Ranch Facebook Page to follow along!
It’s time to start thinking about what you might want next Spring!

Barn cleaning had to happen this month so we rented a bobcat from Abiqua Rentals in Silverton. Didn’t realize I rented the tiny bobcat until too late. Still got the job done. Maybe not wait 6 years to do it next time lol. The plan next year is to remember to get it cleaned in July, if possible, so that it has all the hot weather to dry out well.

Garden Report
I had intended on putting the barn cleanings into the yard, but that tiny bobcat didn’t have the traction, or bucket size, to get it there so perhaps this summer we can rent the bigger bobcat to move it.
Planning to rent a rototiller to tear up the ground in the spring. We’re going to consider if we’re going to do a bunch of planting or not. We have a lot of plants on our patio that need to go in the ground but we need to figure out just how that will look. For now prepping the ground with manure compost and wood chips is our best move.
Don’t forget!
I’ve compiled a list of planting dates for 2025 based on the moon phases:

Shane and I have been taking walks looking for mushrooms on the property, predominantly down in the woods. There were so many pictures I made a slide-show instead of a gallery (and had to select just a few haha).

Trail-Cam and Creek Videos
We have some pretty bucks passing through, clear video of a pair of wood ducks on the creek log, a SUPER RARE video of a fox (we haven’t seen nor heard fox out here for years!), and a little creek sound video.
Arts & Crafts Corner
Shane has been busy making a mushroom growing box. This is made so a heat pad can be inserted in the bottom and the mushroom substrate bag can sit on top to form the mycelium. Once it’s ready then the lid changes to the plexiglass lid and the bag opens up to allow the shrooms to grow. If you have cats that like to sit on things they shouldn’t, just know, this box will hold up to it!
Other News
Mom update!
She had an appointment with the Ortho surgeon on the 17th. She’s supposed to start putting weight on her ankle with a walking cast. So far she just practices sitting to standing in her bed to build strength. Fingers crossed she can start doing transfers to the wheelchair and into the minivan soon. I’m super eager for her to be able to fully walk with her walker again.
