~ The Barn: LAMBING SEASON! ~
I’m transitioning this blog from monthly to 8 times a year. Since I already talked about prepping the barn in last blog post, I get to go straight to the lamb photos!
St Croix – Titus’ Babies!
1/3/26 – late evening
Reg. St. Croix ewe, Tiny (HHR 1003) had 7lb twin ewe lambs sired by Reg. St. Croix Ram, Titus (Swecker RVR 2102). Excellent mother! Great udder.

1/3/26 – late evening
Reg. St. Croix ewe, Ivy (Swecker RVR 2106) had 7lb twin ram/ewe lambs sired by Reg. St. Croix Ram, Titus (Swecker RVR 2102). Excellent mother! Great udder.

1/5/26 – early morning
Reg. St. Croix ewe, Bedazzled (HHR 1005), had this 9lb ewe lamb sired by Reg. St. Croix Ram, Titus (Swecker RVR 2102). Baby has brown ear tips. Super cute! Excellent and protective mama. Great udder.

1/11/26 – morning
Registered St Croix ewe, Gillian (HHR 1012), had triplet 7lb ewe/7lb ewe/5lb ram lambs sired by Registered St Croix ram, Titus (Swecker RVR 2102). I was shocked seeing triplets! I’m not a huge fan of them but her udder looks good so we’ll see how she does!

1/13/26 – early morning
Registered St Croix ewe, Devany (HHR 1016), had 8lb ewe/8.5lb ewe/7lb ewe lambs sired by Registered St Croix ram, Titus (Swecker RVR 2102). She rejected the 7lb white lamb as it had wondered off at some point and probably tried to nurse on other ewes. We got her to take a bottle and found her a new home within the first 24 hours!

1/14/26 – morning
Registered St Croix ewe, Midea (HHR 119) had a 7lb ewe lamb and another ewe lamb that had a catastrophic injury requiring euthanasia. Sired by Registered St Croix ram, Titus (Swecker RVR 2102). She’s a good mom with a good udder. The surviving baby has a large dark brown spot on it’s neck and ear tips. Super cute!

1/15/26 – morning
Registered St Croix ewe, Stella (HHR 1008), had a 9lb ram lamb sired by Registered St Croix Ram, Titus (Swecker RVR 2102). Great mother, maybe she’ll twin next year!

1/15/26 – Afternoon
Registered St Croix Ewe, Duvessa (HHR 1026) had a 7lb ram lamb for her first time. Sired by Registered St Croix Ram, Titus (Swecker RVR 2102). She did excellent! Hoping she’ll twin in the future!

1/19/26 – late evening
Registered St Croix ewe, Melva (HHR 1020) had 7lb white ram and a 7lb black/white ewe lamb. Sired by Registered St Croix Ram, Titus (Swecker RVR 2102). Her first time having twins. Her udder is a basketball! She’s doing amazing and I’m sure they will grow like weeds!

Katahdin – Archie’s Babies!
1/6/26 – late afternoon
Registered Katahdin ewe, Lily (HLW 1015) had 10lb twin ewe lambs sired by Registered Katahdin ram, Archie (KRK 22846). First time having twins. She’s an absolutely wonderful mother. Though a little “u” necked, I think her exceptional mothering will keep her papered. Hopefully her daughter’s are correct and can keep her line going. She’s even better than her own dam with mothering.

1/7/26 – Early morning
66.25% Recorded Katahdin ewe, Nutmeg (HLW 1014), had twin 9lb ewe/11lb ram lambs sired by Registered Katahdin ram, Archie (KRK 22846). She’s a bit nervous around her lambs but very attentive.

1/12/26 – morning
Commercial 28.13% Recorded Katahdin ewe, Pepper (HLW 1018), had this 9.5lb ewe lamb sired by Registered Katahdin ram, Archie (KRK 22846). She’s always a good mama. Too bad she doesn’t twin, but at least she had a girl!

1/13/26 – early morning
Recorded 75% Katahdin ewe, Rusty (HLW 1025) had a 9lb ewe lamb and another ewe lamb that died. Sired by Registered Katahdin ram, Archie (KRK 22846). Crazy first time mama amid confusion of another ewe also lambing at the same time. She ended up not cleaning up one of her lambs so it didn’t make it.

1/13/26 – late afternoon
Recorded 50% Katahdin ewe, Mouse (HLW 1009) had a 14.5lb ewe lamb!!! Sired by Registered Katahdin ram, Archie (KRK 22846). Great mom, just wish she’d had twins! Beautiful baby girl!

1/17/26 – late morning
Recorded 50% Katahdin ewe, Sparrow (HLW 1010) had a 12lb ram lamb sired by Registered Katahdin ram, Archie (KRK 22846). She was so big I really expected twins from her. I need market lambs though, so I’ll take it.

1/17/26 – late morning
Recorded 25% Katahdin ewe, Pixie (HLW 1017) had a 12lb ram lamb sired by Registered Katahdin ram, Archie (KRK 22846). I really expected twins from her. Again, I need market lambs though, so I’ll take it.

1/19/26 – late evening
Recorded 50% Katahdin ewe, Corvina (HLW 1012), had an 11lb brown/white ram lamb and a 10lb white/brown ewe lamb. Sired by Registered Katahdin ram, Archie (KRK 22846). First time she’s had twins and they’re awesome! She’s doing great with them!

1/22/26 – afternoon
Registered Katahdin Ewe, Panda (HLW 1003) had twin 13lb black/white ewe, 9lb Panda black/white ewe lambs. Sired by Registered Katahdin ram, Archie (KRK 22846). Poor girl needed a little help today with the first one but did great otherwise. I was worried when I saw no progress and no lamb movement. Glad I was wrong and things worked out okay!

1/23/26 – late evening
Upgraded Registered Katahdin Ewe, Selene (HLW 1016), had 10lb brown/white and 9lb white ram lambs. Sired by Registered Katahdin ram, Archie (KRK 22846). First time having twins and doing absolutely amazing!!

1/28/26 – morning
Upgraded Registered Katahdin ewe, Poppy (HLW 1001), had twin 12lb ram red/white, and 14lb red roan/white ram lambs. Sired by Registered Katahdin ram, Archie (KRK 22846). She’s a Sherman Tank of a ewe and always has really nice lambs. Good mama, huge udder!

Final numbers!
St Croix: Lambed 170%. 5 ram lambs, 12 ewe lambs, -1 ewe lamb loss, -1 ewe lamb bottle baby sold.
Katahdin: Lambed 164%. 8 ram lambs, 10 ewe lambs, -1 ewe lamb loss.
There’s 32 lambs running around with those 20 ewes out in the barnyard! People often pull off to take pictures when they’re out playing in the sun.
More Lamb Cuteness!
Had to throw in some fun pics of the bottle lamb and general lamb cuteness! Look at the curly ears on those brown lambs. Remind me of Cindy Brady pigtails (The Brady Bunch if you’re too young for that reference!). Look at the loud colors on that St Croix lamb too! Shane spent some time loving up on the bottle baby. Sweet baby found a new home within 24 hours so that was helpful!

~ Lamb & Ewe Sales! ~
There will be SO MANY lambs for sale this year and I’m looking to rehome some ewes as well just to shrink the breeding flock back down a bit. Most of the adult ewes will likely be commercial un-papered breeding stock. I’m only planning to keep 20 ewes in the breeding flock and may hold onto 5 ewe lambs for replacements!
It’s time to start thinking about what you might want May 2026!

~ The Garden: Early February through the Spring Equinox! ~
I’ve compiled a list of planting dates for 2026 based on the moon phases:
2026 Planting Guide – Zones 7/8
Early February is the time to start leek & onion seeds indoors. Outdoors you can plant onion seeds, onion sets, onion bunches, chives, parsley, sage, oregano, rosemary, bare-root trees & shrubs (especially fruit trees, roses and other deciduous shrubs).
Late February start eggplant, pepper, tomato seeds indoors and outdoors start peas and sweet peas.
Early march start outdoors: asparagus, rhubarb, berry crops (strawberries, currants, gooseberry, blueberry, cane berries, etc), chives, parsley, sage, oregano, rosemary.
I’ll be taking a break this year from planting an actual garden (not going to be tempted by late season tomato plants again either hahaha). I will likely still make plans on paper and see what can be done, but there won’t be a veggie garden. I’m just too busy with mom’s care and household stuff right now and I don’t need the stress of adding something else on. Realistically the deer would probably decimate anything I tried to plant as they just love hanging out in the yard! It might be better to figure out some deer fencing to keep them out of the landscape and garden areas first. Might also help if we can contain the chickens better too!
In the meantime, I will still share garden planting reminders!
