Livestock News
June 11th we got our 11 ton of grass hay hauled and stacked in the hay loft. It’s lucky our neighbor about 1/4 mile from us has hay we can purchase AND we pay a crew of kids to do the hardest work. I don’t mind paying the extra for all that. We’ve earned our respite from hauling off the field!

Went out June 3rd to take some fat livestock pictures. They had all changed pastures a couple days before this.

There are still a few breeding stock lambs and adults ready now!
To see what’s available, head on over to the SHOP.
Please check out our 2025 Hair Sheep Price List!
Categories include: Market lambs, Commercial Unpapered St Croix Breeding Stock, Commercial Unpapered Katahdin Breeding Stock, Recorded/Registered Katahdin, & Registered St Croix.

Bought this Easy Lift Rake from Ewe Lamb Right. It makes carrying newborn lambs easier as well as hooking to the scale to weigh the lambs easier. Can’t wait to try it out this coming lambing season!
Started hearing our chick, Ruben, crowing around June 10th, finally. Bandit is a new rooster for the flock as he’s a little more protective than Jasper was. Jasper went missing shortly after, probably the bobcat as no feathers were found anywhere.

We’ve had several chicks hatch throughout June, last one is the white chick of the family (instead of black sheep hahaha)

Garden Report
Cut the scapes from the Elephant Garlic June 8th so the bulbs/cloves could get bigger, probably harvest them in another month. Sugar Snap Peas have been getting harvested throughout June as well. Delicious!
Harvested the hardneck scapes late June and noticed the softneck garlic needed harvesting as well. On June 29th the Ichelium Red and Nootka Rose were harvested and hung on the front porch to dry out.

Sweet Peas on the porch finally began blooming this month!

Don’t forget!
I’ve compiled a list of planting dates for 2025 based on the moon phases:
2025 Planting Guide – Zones 7/8
July is great for things like corn, beets, carrots, and turnips
Late month: Asian greens, broccoli, cauliflower, early cabbage, and kale
Woodland Adventures
We have a big doe hanging out in the yard, right where I’m going to start the garden planning this fall/winter.

A late May video that didn’t make it into the last blog post and a compilation of June trailcam videos. Those fawns are SO ADORABLE!
Crafting
Nothing to report from the woodshop this month, but I made a necklace!
Larimar and Smokey Quartz beaded necklace with a flying serpent pendant. The Larimar isn’t super high quality so only a few chips show the characteristic blue/green coloration. I picked a darker Smokey Quartz to offset the light color.

Some crystal healing woo woo: Larimar is for guidance, Smokey Quartz for being grounded, and the flying serpent is for transformation and balance.
